Xfinity Internet is rapidly rolling out in markets across the country. Comcast today announced that it will increase internet speeds for its Xfinity cable broadband service, affecting more than 20 million homes. The speeds, primarily on the deployment side, are available to new and existing customers, as well as existing fiber optic cable connections.
Emily Waldorf, vice president of consumer products for Comcast Connectivity and Platforms, said in a press release: “Our faster download and upload speeds…give our customers an interactive connectivity experience that we believe is unmatched in the industry.”
The theme here is faster upload speeds on most Xfinity plans. Although download speed is often the most important number (we use it to stream all of our favorite Netflix shows, for example), upload speed is just as important. Increased upload speeds are useful for those who work from home — because of the large file uploads — or for those who want to upload their latest video to TikTok, Instagram or Bluesky.
Customers should note that although this launch is nationwide, it will appear in approximately one in three Xfinity homes – 20 million customers, representing a third of the approximately 64 million U.S. homes and businesses served by Xfinity. Xfinity customers will see no change in pricing for existing plans. Comcast also announced that new and existing customers can get Unlimited with Xfinity Mobile for a year if they sign up for the Connect More (400 Mbps) or higher tier.
